Scope
RCF designed and built Dangote Quay Lekki, Charlie & Delta, a bulk commodities wharf at the Dangote Quays in Ibeju-Lekki, between May 2019 and August 2020. It was designed as an "inner port" jetty. The quay is 412 m long, with a 52.6 m wide deck on piles, a secant wall at the back and a 10 m wide approach slab. It has 14.5 m of water alongside and takes post-Panamax vessels at two berths, C and D, at a time. It is the Dangote fertiliser jetty, built to ship fertiliser out from the Dangote plant.
Design
The deck carries a surcharge of 15 t/m² and a punch load of 60 t/m², enough for a portable ship loader for bulk cargo. Bollards are rated to 100 t, and rubber cone fenders take vessels from 30,000 to 60,000 DWT. A six-inch fire-fighting line runs the full length of the quay, with hydrants and two international shore connections.
The civil works follow BS 6349 for maritime structures, Eurocode 2 for concrete, Eurocode 7 for geotechnical design and BS 8004 for foundations. The fenders follow PIANC and BS 6349-4:2014, and the horn bollards BS 5950 and EN 1993-1-8.
In Numbers
1,601 piles in total, 70,000 m³ of concrete, 7,000 t of reinforcement and 5 rigs on site.
